Dome light on door jamb working backwards ...
I'm having a problem with getting a dome light to work properly on a '99 Jeep Wrangler. I
recently added a new sound bar with a dome light. When I tried to splice into the under-
the-dash light that works with door jamb, the dome light operates backward of the under-
the-the dash light (that is the dome light is OFF with door open, ON when door closes).
The under that dash light works correctly, so not sure what I am doing wrong. The dash
light has two wires coming into it; a red wire which appears to be always on, and a yellow
wire. When i splice into the red, the dome light has constant power. When I splice into
yellow, the light goes on when the door closes, but off when the open. Could use help
getting that reversed. (Interior light is on dimmer switch)
Your door jamb switch completes the path to ground. The pink wire is a constant "hot" 12vdc. By placing the new dome lamp in parallel with the existing lamps, it should work (unless the configuration on the new lamp will not allow it). I included the wiring diagram with the new lamp added on.
What is probably happening is that the combination dome light sound bar is picking up a ground from another source. How is the sound bar mounted? Is is fastened to the frame of the vehicle in some way? Could it be picking up a speaker ground? The frame of the sound bar could be common throughout, This would explain why it is on all of the time when splicing to the pink. The ground is already in the sound bar. Hope this helps.
