I am looking at buying a 1998 cherokee sport. It has 157xxx miles on it. It seems to be running well but I noticed that the transmission fluid was a quart low. Should I be concerned about this? Anyone know of problems to anticipate?

The level may not have been checked in a long time, or have a slight seal leak. Look at the bell housing, and tail end of the transmission. Look along the transmission cooling lines for oily wet looking spots. Ask the owner about it.
The vehicle model itself is known to be very reliable, to 300,000 miles. The fuel mileage would be the only thing I would be concerned with. You might only average 16 or 17 MPG. I own one that has 200,000 miles and you would think it had 50,000 miles.
