You should check on you tube for how to hook up the gauge. Your hooking a fuel pressure gauge in the main fuel line to check fuel pressure. You are able to test the fuel pump pressure, fuel regulators, and for leaky fuel injectors by doing a fuel pressure test.
So it started with starter fluid for a second then just bogged out
Sounds like a fuel pressure issue. Check the fuel pressure and fuel regulator. Need a fuel pressure gauge.
