What's the proper tire pressure?

Asked by Questioner06713855 Oct 06, 2014 at 12:17 AM about the 2002 Honda Accord Coupe EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm not what the proper tire pressure for my car is, or if it even matters that much. The panel on the door says 29 psi. The tires say they can take up to 44 psi. Every other car I've driven has been 35 psi and the Honda dealership where I took it for maintenance filled the tires to 35 psi. Where should I keep it? Does it matter? What are the advantages and disadvantages of higher/lower pressures?

Hi Tom. You should definitely set your tires' cold pressure (i.e., <1 mile driven) to 29 PSI. It does matter. No other PSI will "improve" anything, but will create problems. Google "problems with under-inflated tires" or "problems with over-inflated tires" for more. S

I would run them at 35psi and then keep an eye on the wear pattern. If the tires wear too much in the center lower the pressure. Lower pressure will lower the fuel economy a bit.

Look inside the driver side door panel. Should be a sticker with tire models and recommended PSI. Mine says 51 max PSI on the TIRES but on the sticker with correct tire model numbers says 33 for front and 32 for rear. Set them to the sticker numbers and then turn the indicator off - button left of steering wheel above the open hood lever. Like a fool I aired mine way up above 40 b/c the stupid low air indicator light wouldn't go off. My pressure checker only goes to 40. It was like drive on tires made of concrete.

My daughter has a 2015 Honda accord sport. The drivers door jam says 33 PSI, but her load pressure came on today so when I check the tires one had as much is 39 pounds so I ended up letting air out of three tires and put them all at 34, but the light won’t go off. Any suggestions?

There is a button on the lower left of the dashboard. Kind of hidden. See picture and link. https://www.google.com/search? q=2014+honda+accord+how+to+reset+tire+pressure&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS776US776&oq =honda+accord+2014+how+to+reset+ti&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l2.25801j0j7&sourceid=chr ome&ie=UTF-8 I just bought a 2014 Accord and had the same question and just called the dealer. My front tires say 51 psi and sounded crazy to me. They told me to follow sticker in the door jam and add 4 to the number because that is cold tire pressure which I never really knew what that meant either. It means when the car has not been driven for a while b/c the tires heat up as you drive and the tire pressure goes down a little.

I have a 2005 Honda Civic LX inside the door is says 30 lb for front 30 lb for rear but on my tires it has a different pressure size which size should I run them at

You want to follow what it says inside the door of the vehicle. The tires can be on different vehicles so that is the determining factor.

I don't recommend using the door sticker information, that information is based on what brand tire the car manufacturer originally had a contract with be be used on the entire fleet. Newer tires now a days have a max pressure of 44 to 51 psi so 36 psi cold is ideal, you may reach about 38, 39, or 40 during normal temperature operation which is totally fine.
