Do I have to drop the fuel tank to change the fuel
pump

If there is not an access panel to go threw over the gas tank, then yes you do.

I just went to all of this dropping the gas tank deal to check on the filter or the pressure regulator, I bought to kind of press. reg. none of them were the right one, not in the fuel rail, not in the line along the frame and all I could see in the fuel pump assembly was a spring loaded kinda container and a about 2" by 3" pick up screen in the bottom of it. I really dont know how a pressure regulator can work before the pumo diacharge. The filter looks like the pick up filter all the fuel pumps have.
