what is the maximum towing capacity of this vehicle with a 4.0l 6cyl w/ 5-speed manual trans

Actually, with the manual trans, the 4.0 was rated up to 5,000 lbs towing capacity according to the original factory sales literature.

My 1990 XJ with the 170HP 4.0 I6 and manual transmission had the 3.73 axle ratios and 31 inch tires. It would barley climb a hill at 50mph towing a 2000lb boat. It was good on the flat but any hill would slow it to the point where I got "the finger" from just about everyone that passed.
