Ford ranger not running

Asked by Bigrumer1 Dec 30, 2016 at 06:32 AM about the 1999 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 99 Ford ranger XLT with a 4.0 4x4. I was
driving and it died. It will turn over but it's not
hitting. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Sounds like you lost spark. I would start by scanning the vehicle for codes.

Check to see if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail. A shade tree method of checking to see if it has fuel is to spray a small amount of starting fluid in the intake to see if the engine tries to fire. If it tries to fire then you know it is a fuel issue, if not then it is compression or more likely a spark issue. How many miles on this vehicle?
