my heat in my car wont blow out when the car is started. any ideas what it could be?

it blows when the key is turned on. but when i start it the heat stops blowing & tge radio turns off also...
i've just had a new alternator put in 2 wks ago if it means anything.

the switch was starting to go bad a few months back and i took it to the shop he took it out and fiddled with it & put it back in and it worked fine....at that time it never gave me problems with the heat/ac it was just really hard 2 turn the key in the ignition

i have to agree with tennisshoes it definitely sounds like your ignition switch. or perhaps when he took it out to clean the tumblers in the igniton when he put it back together something could have came loose... an unlikely option. when you start your vehicle try jiggling your key back and fourth without turning the engine off and see if it kicks in at all.
