Did you try to spray some WD 40 into the ignition switch yet?

On the bottom of the lock cylinder (where the key goes) is a black rectangular plastic piece with a cable attached. If your remove the 5 phillips head screws the black rectangular plastic piece will come down with the cable and allow the key to be removed or even turned on the starting position. The white plastic "L" piece attached to the cable inside the black rectangular component is not returning all the way to the top. This cable is attached to the push button knob inslde the shifter for the transmission on the center console. This knob for the shifter can be removed by 2 phillips screws on the front of shifter knob right next to the dash board ( a very small #2 stubby phillips screw driver required - or a phillips head on a small ratchet). This is a tough fix but if you just need the key to come out you can simply remove the panel under the steering column (10 mm hex bolt, remove the emergency brake release knob on the dash (#2 phillips screw driver on the bottom side I think), I think you need to drop the upper metal bracket under the steering column (4 - 10mm hex bolts) Then simply remove the black retangular box on the bottom side of the lock cylinder (key tumbler). This should allow the key to move freely - EVEN IN GEAR - IT CAN NOW START IN DRIVE AND REVERSE AND JUMP FORWARD. So please be careful Hope this helps btw it is best to only use sprayable graphite in lock cylinders as WD-40 attracts dirt and my gum up over time.
