what is wrong with the a/c fan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hope somebody can help me with this problem. The fan is only working on hi and not in the other 3 positions. The total fan/ac/etc unit in the centre of dashboard was replaced without any change, what can be wrong?

Probably the switch itself, it is a multiple speed switch that has likely gone bad..or...when you say the entire unit was replaced, do you mean with another one or had it out for some reason then put it back? If so, some of the wires may have come unattached and it's not the switch but the wiring to it

Blower motors have a resistor in line to regulate the fan speed. It's usually found in the duct work to keep it cool. When they burn out, you only have the high speed which is a full 12 volts. I found them on RockAuto.com $44-$49 --- 2005 KIA SORENTO 3.5L V6 Blower Motor Control Module | Resistor

most defintely the blower resitor on this one. and it will be on the passenger side of the vehicle by the blower motor. i dont remember where it is on this particular model but if its on the bottom of the heater box it will plainly visible. if you dont see it there it will be on top of the blower box and can be accessed by dropping the glove box down.should be a relatively simple repair. 2 screws and its out

Thanks for all the answers. The resistor James is talking about is on top of the blower box. it is a transitor and it is blown. A new unit is R1600 ( at the dealers) a transistor is R100. I will be replacing the transistor hold thumps.

Ok now what? I changed the resistor and the fan won't come on, changed the fan, new resistor + new fan = still no fan??? Buttons on dash work (light up) just nothing from the fan. Funny thing is the seat warmers won't work either, stopped at same time, however those buttons on the dash don't work (won't light up). Help Please!!!

For anyone else who is having this problem. The issue is the blower fan resistor. You will need to purchase a new resistor. The part number from KIA is: 97907-1U000

My 2011 Sorento center output vents work only in speed 1&2. On speed 3 there is a "thump" noise (center dash vents close).
