Go threw the back seat, should be access to the trunk there, then there should be a safety release to pull to open the trunk.

but, how do you fix the problem so it doesn't happen again, or is there a fix for this problem, what caused it?

Sorry, I would have to look at it, I'd check to see if there is a fuse blown, you would think the key would open it, what good is a key then if it don't? Thats why maybe going threw the back seat to open the trunk, then maybe see why all this is not working.

Carla, when pushing the trunk release, have someone pull up on the trunk lid. Then have someone look to see why it does not pop open when just hitting the release button.

I have several electrical problems with my 2003 KIa Optima. 1. The trunk release button does not open the trunk 2. The radio digital display does not work 3. The radio goes on and off by itself thereby making the antenna go up and down at random 4. Since I had a battery put into my car the remote key does not work What gives with this car?l

Go through the back seat. Pull the safety release. Lift up on trunk to open. While it's opened, in the middle there should be a safety latch. Move it to the open position.
