1975 Chevy C10 dies after releasing the gas pedal

Asked by Jonathan_1975 Dec 25, 2017 at 12:17 PM about the 1975 Chevrolet C/K 10 Custom Deluxe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 1975 Chevy C10 that I used as my daily
driver.. Up until a few months ago when I started
having issues with it. The truck will turn on.
Everything turns on. I crank it and it runs, but only
for about a minute and it dies on me. Either I keep
my foot on the pedal, or it dies. If I come to a stop
while driving, it dies. I've had a couple mechanics
look at it, and both have obviously missed
something because the issue hasn't been resolved.
I really need my truck back, i would appreciate any
sort of advice. Thank you!

Mechanical fuel pump I presume? If it doesn't have an electric fuel pump may want to look into one, or add one as an assist. You can check the fuel pressure as well and at least see what you've got. From your description it seems you have a lack of fuel delivery. If it's not lack of fuel pressure it's likely the carburetor. A weak accelerator pump can leave you dry unless mashing the gas pedal down.
