Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my kia has a front right axle making noise and the boot is seperated partially from its metal/runner connection. should i replace the bearing as well as the cv axle? i hear a whirring sound like a bad bearing. my studs are a little uneven but not alot. it pulls right when driving. should i be worried about the intermediate shaft as well? the steering wheel shudders heavily. 150000 km on it.

Yes on the bearing, better check the other side as it might be close to going out also. Intermediate shafts bearings tend to go a long time as they don't carry any real loads, so as long as there is no movement in the bearing your good. Steering wheel vibration can be caused by a lot of things, worn suspension and steering components, alignment problems, warped brake rotors. As it pulls right you have an alignment or steering component problem already. So you need help, but is the vehicle actually worth putting that kind of money into it? Only you can answer that.

Definitely needs a drive axle. The constant velocity (CV) joint boot is torn and the lubricant is leaking out. Since you're going to be right in the area, replace the bearing too. Then get an alignment to correct the pulling. Jim
