Im guessing its automatic? have you checked the level of oil in the transmission?

Yep, fluid level first. Check it with the vehicle warm and running, in Park or Neutral. If it's low, fill it up to the middle of the *hot fill* hashes with the *correct* fluid. Most vehicles will specify what type of fluid to run on the dipstick itself, it will be stamped on it. Also note the condition of the fluid on the stick. If it's dark, looks like it has particulate in it, and/or smells like burnt toast, the transmission may be shot.
