Are the cooling fans coming on? Does it have enough miles to warrant a bad water pump? Does it use coolant? My guess would be a worn water pump impeller in other words a bad pump. That cold thermostat will cause drivability problems down the road I think it should be 195 deg.
Fans are on, radiator fan seeems to be slower with heater on,I use coolant, water pump was replaced several years ago.I order the thermostat using ven number to get a perfect fit and kia came back with 170, we had a 180 in it ran hot all the time kia tech also said it should be 170, this car has 135000 miles there is no leaks
Kia calls for thermostat to open at 170 F and be completely open at 203 F
Have the charging system checked, the alternator may not be producing enough current at idle. Make sure they load test the system. Idle speed may also be to low that can be caus d by a TPS out if range or coolant temp sensor reading out of spec.
