Overheating?

Asked by Dazed_n_confused_351... Dec 17, 2018 at 06:38 PM about the 2003 Kia Sedona LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an '03 kia Sedona with a temp gauge sub it's
running hot within 4 miles of being cranked.  It
kinda fluctuates for a minute then goes up to H.
We will pull over of course.. there is an overheating
smell,  but there is no steam, no leaks that we can
see underneath, and no bubbling/ boiling sound. Is
this a thermostat issue, water pump?

Could be just a stuck thermostat. If it is stuck closed, coolant will not get to the radiator and the engine will heat up rather quickly. Water pump is also possible but less likely.

It really depends on where the thermostat gets stuck at sounds to me yours is stuck in the halfway position that is why showing hot but not over heating.
