cant find crank sensor

I have the alternator off I thought the o2 sensor and crank sensor was both right behind it I have a 1999 ford Taurus 3.0l DOHC durateck

Breakman, The cranshaft position sensor should be right next to the crank pulley (usually the largest diameter pulley depending on the make and model) It reads the magnetic input from the harmonic balancer so it knows what positions the rotating assembly is in. Here is a diagram of a typical crank sensor location. Good luck.
