Actually if you plan on pulling door panels off, inside, they are better off up. If you have trouble, for one thing it's better to have them stuck up than down. And the glass will not be in the way of getting to regulators
But did they both stop working at the same time? Or one then the other later? Both at the same time would be odd for the regulators/motors to fail. And they don't work from switch on each door and drivers controls also?
I have disconnected the motor from the door (3 bolts ) but the other end of the drive cable is connected to the glass with 2 bolts, i cannot get to these to undo them, so i need to get the glass down so i can undo them, any help please
they stopped working at different times and i have only just got around to looking at them, no they don't work from switch on each door and drivers controls also
Paul, this is unlikely to help but I have looked everywhere, Kia forums, every book available that they don't ask for credit card, and am stumped. Sorry 'bout that. But click for a full screen image, and maybe, just maybe, it will show something
The biggest failure to window motors on 2017 and newer Sportage isn't actually the motor at all. There is a regulator gear that the motor attaches to that easily dry rots. A new regulator, a rather expensive repair, will fix it temporarily. The regulator gear will fail again. Hopefully, it will be manufactured by a vendor as an aftermarket piece, and just that gear can be replaced. I have repaired them by fabricating an insert for that regulator gear which makes it much stronger. Good luck!
GuruFZRTF, I have same problem with the motor of the passenger side-front. I wonder how you disassembled the gear piece from the motor ( that is the inside plastic worm gear, right?), that looks like it is stuck in there, but cannot put it apart. I'm about to purchase a new motor to try.
