I don't know how detailed a diagram or what systems you're looking for, bee, but you can download the whole owner's manual for a 2001 Sportage from Kia Canada: http://www.kia.ca/owners_manuals.asp?lang=en (scroll down). Page 233 of that manual has a decent engine diagram, but you'll probably want to download the whole thing first, since paging through to there online will take forever. Hope that helps!

spits and sputters from time to time cuts out and sometimes wont start what can i do

If it still turns over, your fuel system is suspect. So, start with the spark plugs, then check your lines and fuel pump.
