Oil Change and Reset Oil guage

Asked by GuruTYTKR Jun 15, 2018 at 09:52 PM about the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I had my oil changed, the serviceman forgot to reset my oil gauge to
100%.  When I set the reset button in the Oil category, the car now says
100%.  I had my oil changed about 6 weeks ago so my oil should show
some use.  I thought there was a gauge in the oil tank that told the car how
dirty the oil is and when it should be changed.  After I began to drive the car,
will the percentage of clean to dirty oil recalibrate and show me the correct
percentage from clean to dirty oil??

1 Answer

There is no measure of oil quality. The number is computed with miles and how the car is driven. Much better to change the oil on a regular schedule such as every 5,000 miles.
