what could cause my car not to crank after replaing transmission

I had my transmission replaced but it want started with the key but it you jump it from the starter it will crank but only take off in 2 gear

take it back to who did the work...

There is a neutral safety switch which only allows a car to crank in park or neutral. It sounds like a prime suspect, and probably needs adjustment or replacement. I would take it back to whoever worked on it and tell them you need a loaner until it's fixed.
