Electric Power Steering motor noise

Asked by Marcos Aug 20, 2019 at 10:11 PM about the 2018 Hyundai Elantra SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The steering wheel makes this strange whining sound while I turn in on my
2018 Elantra. The noise can only be heard while parking, or driving at low
speeds. There is no power steering fluid because it is an Electric Power
Steering system. The car however, steers perfectly fine, and there is absolutely
no increased effort at all required on the steering wheel.

I have the same issue. It's like there's something that slips inside the steering. Then after a few months my steering locks everytime. I need to restart the car for the steering to unlock. Then now, it is totally no longer working. The Steering warning is always on. And Hyundai said they will have to replace the steering module which will take 45 days to arrive upon ordering.

I had exactly same problem. Under warranty dealer knew about it. They disassembled steering column and dash and replaced electric steering module. Gear box had no grease. Defective part from factory.
