Power steering belt squeal

Asked by Grotty8675309 Jul 14, 2020 at 10:00 PM about the 2001 Hyundai Elantra GL Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Out of ideas at this point. Thought power
steering pump was bad and replaced it as
well a fluid flush. Have went through 4
different belts. The squeal will stop with a
new belt anywhere from 1 day to about a
week. Then it starts to squeal again. I then
replaced the pulley on the pump with a new
belt. This lasted a couple of days as well. I
had my son turn the steering wheel while
watching under the hood, you can
physically watch the pulley slow down or
even stop while under load while the belt
just slips around the pulley.  Running out of
ideas at this point and asking for help
please.

You can buy a can of Belt dressing at your local auto parts store also I would spray a little wd40 on the idler pulleys. Be careful not to spray the wd on the belts

Sounds like the pulley is bad or the tensioner spring is bad
