Stays on and bright in my new 2018 Grand Cherokee too. I see a lot of people addressed this. Will check with dealer next. Haven't found any answers online yet.

The USB hubs on select model year 2018 have a timer on them that allows you to charge a device after the ignition has shut down. There is a 60 minute timer on the front hub and a 10 minute timer on the rear hub. During that time, the rings remain illuminated so you know the ports are active and available for charging!
