Fuel Empty

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My new Subaru is clearly empty when the indicator says I have 20 miles to go on the low fuel. I get it. Car won't start. Have I done any damage to the fuel injectors? Do I only have to add fuel?

Add fuel and hope for the best. I doubt the injectors would be damaged but there is a chance the fuel pump was. Only one way to know, put several gallons in it and fire it up.

I'd use premium just this one time to dilute any water or junk in them there dregs!
The same thing happened to us. Fortunately we were at the Subaru dealer when it happened to our brand new SUV. Apparently this is a known problem that is caused by a defective fuel cluster that calibrates the amount of miles one has remainng. We were told that Subaru is manufacturing/replacing the part but it will be a month before the new part is shipped to our dealer. Unfortunately, Subaru has not notified owners of this potential problem and I could not find anything posted on their website about this.
Additional Info: We were told that Subaru knows about this problem but is only replacing the part if they are notified that a particular car has the problem. Seems to us that there would be a lot more complaints but most of us do not let our cars go so low before refueling!
