Security light on. Car won't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I approach the car to open. Fob does not unlock or lock or stat the alarm. I
have to unlock the car by placing key in door. The security light is on. Placing
the key in the ignition causes it to flash and click rapidly. Car won't start.
Dashboard is largely dark with a few warning lights on. I am thinking the
battery is very dead? But is it also something more since the car doesn't seem
to be recognizing any of my fobs?

Replace the battery in the fob and try it again.
It’s a chip just to the side of the key hinge. Either re-use this piece or very carefully remove chip and fit into new key. Must be a manufacturers secret as even the garages seem to fob over it. See photo.
If your key won’t open the doors you can reset the fob. 1. Open drivers door 2. Turn ignition on and off three times 3. Close and open drivers door three times 4. Press button on key fob twice 4.5 If you have a second key press a butto twice on that one as well 5. Turn ignition on and off All should then be reset

Glynno, I’m confused about this chip u are saying that’s in the column to take it out and put in the fob?? Can u explain a little
Hi Wisetech84, the chip is in the keyfob. After you take the pcb out you eed to find the chip. Its small piece that looks like carbon. It is aside the key part of the fob so you need to split the key part and you will find it tucked awayin here. Be very carefull withit as it is fragile. Maybe it would be best to cut it outof the plastic.
Oh the part is not in the column its in the key fob.

Glynno, thank you for your response. I did end up reading your comment again and realized that I misread it. But thank you again for responding.
glynno - What button do you push on the fob when going through the reset process? Nothing seems to work. While I can start my car without issue now I can't lock it. My husband even tried disconnecting the car battery in an attempt to reset the system.
could be the battery in the fob. check that the red light is flashing when you press the lock button.

What if you lost the key fob? Is there a way to just disarm the alarm at all?
How do I reset alarm on a 2004 Mazda 6 I don’t have a button forbit
if you have lost the key fob completely then I think you would need to buy from Mazda as you have also lost the chip. Could be a lot more expensive than a fob off the internet.
Why does a immobilizer system in a 2016 Mazda CX-5 works sometimes and not sometimes? Sometimes a key must be used... other times it works just fine?
Glynno plz post a pic of we’re it’s at and we’re to cut
Glynno, thank you. I took apart my old fob and put all the parts in a new fob case. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why it wouldn't start. After reading your post, I went through the old pieces and found the chip. I put it in the new fob case and bam, started right up. I thought it was a piece of broken plastic. I would have never figured that out. Thanks again.
I have a mazda6 that won't start. The lock/car button keeps flashing. I replaced the battery in the car as well. The fob works fine but can't get car to start.
