is it worth replacing my 2003 mazda tribute engine??

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 mazda tribute v6 with 170k miles on it..recently it died on me and I was told it was the starter, but after that was replaced come to find out it wasn't the starter..come to find out it was the motor_one side wasn't turning so I was told I have 2 choices which is to either junk the truck or buy a new engine... over the past year I have replaced a lot of parts and was actually going to trade it in after I got it back running, but now that I find that it is the engine I don't know if it is worth it.. any help?? is there any way to actually fix one side of a motor to turn or no??

If 'one side is turning' it has either a broken timing chain (no belt) and it is an interference engine, or a broken crankshaft, and there is always a way but not practical. Not even close. My point being you were told the truth, your engine is shot. RIP. It's worth maybe $4,000, running in good condition. You put a rebuilt engine will cost more than it's worth. ($4000, https://www.automd.com/iq/results/?quote_request_id=7494261) Then you have transmission with 170k ..time for another car

Depending on how many parts you have already replaced and how practical this Tribute is for you... it may be worth saving. A used engine is about $1,000 and you can usually get one installed for another $500. The mileage of that engine would be in the 100K to 150K. If you can afford to put $1500 to $2000 into it and drive it for a few years before selling it, then that is what I would do. You can probably message me on here and I can give you a link to use to find an engine local to you from a parts yard.

I have a 2003 Mazda Tribute FWD with 3L V-6. it is the best car i have ever owned. I am the original owner. The answer depends on the condition of the body and frame. if there is no body cancer (rust) then I would simply replace the engine and transmission and call it good. The cost of a new / rebuilt drive train is 10% of what you would pay for a new CX-9 or other SUV. Someone asked me what the car is worth? The Kelly Blue Book lists it out at under $1,000. However, as I told a friend of mine, IF I count the money I have NOT paid out since 2009 per month in car payments, it is worth $48,000. There has been no major repairs. Mostly the repairs have been routine maintenance. The stereo system died once and was replaced under extended warranty. radios are cheap today.
