2002 mazda protege parking brake not working

Asked by migration_Dason27 Oct 23, 2013 at 11:24 PM about the 2002 Mazda Protege DX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On my 2002 mazda protege DX drum rear brakes
Automatic trans.  Ok so I changed my brake on the car I know I did it right
Everything went back like it came out. I changed the shoes and
The wheel cylinder on both rear wheels. I also bleed my brakes
The car is braking better then before but when I put the parking brake it does not hold the
car. I then removed the cover from the shifter and useing a 10mm socket I tighten the nut
but it's not enough. What did I miss? I am certain I did my brake right however I been
thinking about the brake adjuster I put it back how it was was I suppose to something
different with it? Any ideas will be helpful thanks.

on both rear wheels there is parking brake adjuster. you have to rotate star wheel in proper direction until you start feeling slight drag on drum. after that drive&stop car several times in reverse to further adjust ER brakes
