Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Mazda Protege Question: I just bought a mazda protege dx 5 speed at 70,000 miles. Any advice?
I had the rotors replaced, and am wondering what else should be given my attention. The check engine light came on with a code reading P0455 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (Large Leak) Whats the worst I can expect? thank you - Nicklegit

Chances are good the large leak is a gas cap failure. If you don't tighten it properly when you fill up, or if the cap itself is worn out then you will get this code. When I buy a used car, depending on mileage, I check the manual for recommended maintenance. It may or may not need a tune up or trans service until 100k, but at the very least, change the oil and filter, do a cooling system flush and check all fluid levels. Also inspect the air filter and clean the throttle body and MAF using the appropriate cleaners. A well maintained car will last a long time.

Hope this helps a bit: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0455 ------->> Aside from the brake rotors, I would have all of the hoses and belts checked, tires inspected (do they have dry rot?? Tires 5 years old or more = replace), inspect battery and an oil change certainly can't hurt either.

I just had an oil change the next step will be to buy a new gas cap and have auto zone reset the light. Tires are newer they have good tread.
