2001 millenia S 2.3L will idle only when cold and won't drive at all

Asked by Derby_1407 Feb 28, 2017 at 11:12 AM about the 2001 Mazda Millenia 4 Dr S Supercharged Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 millenia s (2.3). One night it started missfiring and check
engine light blinking under light load but I was able to make it home (30
minute drive). Next day I checked code and it was a multiple cylinder
missfie. Cleared code and went to the store, it drove fine for about 5
minutes without any problems and then started missfiring again. Came
back home and had to leave for work, 10 minutes later it lost power
completely and I had to tow it back home. It starts fine, fuel pressure is fine,
when engine is worm it will idle really really rough with a lot of clunking
noizes. As soon as i disconnect Mass airflow sensor rpm goes up just a
little and it idles fine, not perfect but fine and I can even drive it in and out
of garage without stepping on gas. when I plug mass airflow sensor back in
it will idle rough again and dies as soon as I put in in gear. Got a new
sensor but it does the same thing.

The problem will not go away until it is fixed. The codes will just keep coming back....P0300 MAZDA - Random Cylinder Misfire Detected...Possible causes; Faulty spark plug (s), Faulty ignition coil (s), Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s), Intake air leak, Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted, Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection, Ignition coils harness is open or shorted, Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection, Insufficient cylinders compression, Incorrect fuel pressure...The P0300 code means that a cylinder(s) is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks, intake gaskets are common caused of multi-cylinder misfiring. If no leak are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem.
