Turn off Navigation Voice Guidance Unless Needed
Asked by Carolyn Dec 19, 2018 at 09:33 AM about the 2018 Nissan Rogue SV AWD
Question type: Car Customization
I just bought a 2018 Nissan Rogue. It comes with the Sun and Sound
package and navigation. The Voice Guidance for the navigation appears to
be set to "on" by default.
This means that it regularly gives me alerts for traffic incidents even when
the navigation isn't on. The alerts are usually helpful except for one...
I live in and work in an HOA so whenever I enter these neighborhoods the
car announces "Caution, Road with Restricted Access". If I'm driving around
the neighborhood at work, then it may say it three times in one trip.
I've found that turning off the Voice Guidance for the nav stops the
announcement, but when I shut my car off and turn it back on it just resets to
the default.
Is there a way to get this setting to stay "off" unless I need it and turn it on
manually?

Being such a new vehicle ask the dealer to help if the owner's manual does not explain how to de-select it. For now, just turn the volume way down.
Read your owners manual!
Exactly the same problem here. The solution is not in the owner's manual.
Stumbled upon your thread while trying to research the answer. I have the same issue for my 2018 Rogue SL. Live in a gated community and the GPS announces 'Caution: Road with restricted access' at least 3 times before I exit the community on the way out. Can sometimes get annoying. So far, no solution found.
I have a 2018 Rogue SV and complained about this as well... This is so annoying, especially when driving down the road and it's constantly cutting into my tunes. I know there is traffic everywhere, I'm always sitting in it... I don't need a robot voice constantly reminding me of this wasted time... I took it to the dealer since it was under warranty. They thought the Navigation unit was defective because they turned off Voice Guidance in a 2018 Rogue in their lot and the Voice Guidance" stayed off. Woohoo, then replace it... After they replaced the navigation/stereo unit and applied all the updates and it still came back on.. They finally came back and said according to their "tech-line" that is was a normal operation in this vehicle. The 2018 Rogue in the lot had a Bose system and it should stay off with that system. Hmmmmmmmm..... Oh well... At least it's a female voice.... Oh, and I also need to remember to take all my change out of my center console.. Who steals change???
Carolyn has it right. Turning off voice guidance in the navigation settings worked for me. Fortunately it didn’t turn back on the next time like hers.
I cannot get mine to stay off either - as soon as you turn the car off, it resets. The volume setting on the voice remains set to low - but it still mutes my music :-(

I accidentally happened upon a solution. When your GPS voice is speaking, use your radio volume control to adjust the voice to the volume you'd like or even turn it all the way down. The volume will stay there until you use the same method to turn it up.
Nissan is worthless in trying to address, and no owners manual is going to help. Constantly says "caution-unpaved road" on my residential street - which is paved, busy road, not a cul-de-sac. Again - Nissan is no help, other than "huh - that's weird". I'm going to report them under lemon law since they refuse to offer a solution. fundamental flaw in the vehicle.
Can’t wait for my last year to be over with my 2018 Nissan Rouge lease... I’ll be sure to send it CAUTIOUSLY, down the many UNPAVED ROADs around my town. I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT AGAIN... I feel like I have been harassed by the voice in my car for the past two years shouting CAUTION UNPAVED ROAD at me. It’s not enjoyable to drive a vehicle when you’re constantly waiting for that robot voice to scream at you… frankly, it’s concerning to me that Nissan has no solution, or will not try to find a solution to fix this problem. Way to go Nissan...

Did you ever try the answer below? Slingulator answered 2 months ago I accidentally happened upon a solution. When your GPS voice is speaking, use your radio volume control to adjust the voice to the volume you'd like or even turn it all the way down. The volume will stay there until you use the same method to turn it up.

Ok guys!! I tried what the person said above!! I tested it once after even turning my car off for a bit to see if my Caution restricted area voice would come back. It didnt come back!! Go into a restricted area and as soon as you know that voice will speak. Turn down the voice with the radio knob!! Its GONE!!! Again I only tested it once then I turned off my car for a bit and it Didn't come back. There you go. Hopefully it works for everyone!!!!!!
It worked. As she is speaking turn your volume right down. Don’t know yet what will happen next time I start the car. I’ll let you know.

Trade to a vehicle made by a manufacturer who realizes people too stupid to know a road is not paved have to be warned.
