No brake lights on 98 chevy 3500

Asked by Robert Jan 11, 2019 at 12:55 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet C/K 3500 Silverado Crew Cab LB RWD

Question type: General

I have Emergency flashers, turn signals, but no brake lights. If you turn on the
emergency flashers and hit the brakes the flashers continue to flash. My trailer
brake control unit works with when the pedal is pushed though so the brake
switch is working. Lost and confused of this matter. Any ideas anyone

Should start by finding a fuse box diagram and see which fuse runs the brake lights. Frequently the brake lights and hazards are on the same fuse. If that is the case, since your hazards work the fuse would not be the problem. But these combinations on fuses vary from year to year and model to model. So I would check the fuses first. You didn't state whether your normal tail lights are working. Good idea to check all these fuses marked as lights in the fuse box.

And you should definately check your bulbs. Depending on how these circuits are connected, burnt out filaments can crash function. Tail lights, flashers and brake lights all run on double filament bulbs.
