Whining noise

My truck makes a loud whining noise only when
accerlating and only starts at around 40mph just
wondering what it could be

Not sure but be on the lookout for an alternator that may be getting ready to go. I just lost one and that was the first time I have heard alternator whine since the 70's. Unfortunately, it's not the only thing that can whine but in the distant past it was probably the most common.
