Loss of power to radio head unit when adjusting climate controls

Asked by J Jul 04, 2024 at 04:04 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze LTZ Turbo Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have seen different versions of the problem I see in my car with no clear answer to the issue.

In mine, when I adjust the climate controls, the radio head unit seems to lose power momentarily, and then resets.  It comes back on after a minute and works fine.  It happens every time I adjust the climate controls.  The radio head unit itself operates perfectly fine on it's own.  Every function as intended.  I have the 8" touch screen infotainment GPS unit.  Has anybody seen or heard of this issue before?  I've tried searching the internet many times but can't find anything that matches my issue.

I've wanted to replace the whole radio head unit with a new android based touch screen unit with android auto, but am unsure if this issue will continue if it is not caused by the head unit.  Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

GM is known to have infotainment failures, so don’t be surprised if it just quits working one day. My Equinox infotainment system started doing so strange things just before it failed, couldn’t fix it cause they quit making parts for the system. Went with aftermarket that could connect to the vehicle data stream so everything would work, ran around 600 bucks installed.
