2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude

Asked by GuruB81JK Jan 12, 2019 at 12:15 PM about the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need to know if anyone else has experienced this MAJOR flaw with their Jeep vehicles.
My brand new Jeep shut off on me (WHILE DRIVING) several different times and I was told at the dealership that it was because I needed an oil change. My dash told me I had 30% left before it needed an oil change. It apparently has a mechanism that will detect either low oil or an oil change needed and just kill the engine. They changed my oil and it hasn't done it since. The car never gave an indicator. Any one else experience this huge and very serious issue?

Yes, we are having same issues with our 2019 Jeep Cherokee. It is on it's fourth radio and several software updates. Problems still their. We have had it and will pursue legal action, if needed, to get vehicle replaced.

My 2015 shut down while driving. a lot of dash lights acting odd like a low voltage issue. first garage said a starter cable was burnt but had to go to the dealer. Dealer says the engine is seized. Which doesn't make sense do to no indications of that. Oil is fine. I asked them to check to make sure that starter issue isn't causing it to be stuck against the flywheel making it seem like the motor is seized. hopefully I get better news tomorrow

2016 Jeep Cherokee All I can say is while the car is under warranty get your oil changes when you are suppose to via the little sticker on the windshield and with the dealer. Why in heavens name they are allowed to still make these lemons is one of the great mysteries of the universe. Do your research online for similar complaints and inform your dealer service center. They tried to take me for a spin when all the lights on my shifter lit up and shifter warning came on "I was told since the lights did not stay on or the warning I was okay. I said ummm I don't think so take a look at it please. I was told the shifter assembly was faulty and they quite happily wrote me up an estimated repair ..a couple of grand and then I happily reminded them I had an an extended warranty and to please run it by them to pay.then I was happy and they were not because it was covered and Lo and behold what they charged the warranty company vs what they were going to charge me...huge difference guess they aren't allowed to fleece the insurance company. I asked them if this is a common problem and I was told no and I countered with the number of complaints I had found online that it is..They had no response a lot of blank looks..Oh and 8 months later the new shifter assembly failed and they tried to get me to pay for it saying there was a piece not part of the replacement assembly that failed... I argued with them stating the entire assembly was replaced what are you talking about? I said well run it through my extended warranty and see what they say...well they decided not to do that..because again they are not allowed to fleece them ..They replaced it for free and covered my rental. FYI Started losing oil and now getting a replacement engine covered by extended warranty but I cannot stress enough to have the Dealer do your oil changes so they are documenting you are getting them done and with recommended oil.

It wasn't due for its first oil change yet. but i got the service history from previous owner and everything is in order. So it's looking like jeep is going to have to honor their warranty.

So I just bought mine and the main screen went nuts today. Heater and AC turned on and radio switched to several stations. It looks like this will become an ongoing issue

I bought my jeep in October of 2018 and I had to take it back for a recall about the issue of it turning off while driving. It never happened to me however I did take it back for recall that

My 2019 Cherokee latitude had the same issue shutting off. It was 3 quarts low on oil, and hadn’t even been thru the first oil change. Dealership said there’s been an issue with these using oil. 3 quarts in the first 3000 miles? Never heard of such a thing on a brand new vehicle. Maybe in a very old car with numerous miles, but brand new? I just assumed they didn’t put in the required amount of oil from the factory

We are having the same issues. I havent had this truck for thirty days ...its not because of a oil change either.

My 2017 Jeep Cherokee keeps shutting down while driving, I took it in a 2 months ago and they said my car had not open drop of oil. I got an oil change and this morning while driving my car shut off again. I checked the oil dip stick and sure thing it had not one single drop of oil! How is that even possible? My car burns the oil completely! I just got an oil change 2 months ago!

My 2019 Jeep is doing the same thing. Yesterday, I took it for an oil change as it was stalling out with all the lights coming on as described in some of the previous posts. It was not due for an oil change, no notice on the dash board that it needed oil or required an oil change but no oil registered on the dip stick. I called the dealership and was told it was a flaw in the engine and it caused the oil to go right out of the tail pipe. I am taking in on Monday and they are telling me they will need to replace the engine.

Mine is doing the same thing! It was at 55% oil life and cut off on me when I was merging onto the interstate. My Jeep goes nuts when it’s close to time for an oil change. My radio also will change to the AM station when this weird thing starts happening.

Yes today. I hv a 2018 Renegade Lattiude. I took it on a road trip 2,000 were added to the 5,000. Upon returning the promt for a oil change came up. I've been back a week from trip planning to sch it for its very 1st oil change but yesterday it stalled, shut off. It started right right away. Than today i started it got out on the street and it died, shut off again with a message to put in park to start. 3 times stalled. A message came up "Low Oil Pressure". I managed to make it to the corner station and check oil. It was bone dry.....3 quarts low. I added the oil, which by the way she'll station did not sell. Had to go to a to part store to purchase at 9.00 bucks a quart. Filled, started the jeep and it ran great the rest of the day. Will see what happens tomorrow.

My 2018 Jeep Cherokee has done the same thing. I have had it for just over a year and same thing turning a corner and it stalled out and it said it must be in park the battery light came on along with the lightning bolt but not once has the oil spout lit up to say oil low or any message about an oil change. Is the first and most likely the last Jeep I will ever own. First question out of service persons mouth was when was last oil change. I was not quite due for my next one, never heard of this. I called another dealer service and they said they are seeing more of this. I would think this is quite dangerous. I did call Jeep corp and there are no recalls. They should at least be fixing the problem of there is no notification of low oil.

I have same issue and is not from oil life. My vehicle didn’t have 3000 miles when the engine shutted off in middle of highway. Dealership did an investigation (15 days in the shop) told me that they don’t know what the hell is going on but the update on the radio should take care of it.

Jeep has piston ring problem causing burning oil you need to have dealer start a oil consumption check , if abnormal level engine will need replacement.

Yes my 2019 is about to have it’s 3rd oil change, apparently it’s supposed to go every 3,000 miles to get an oil change. When I called the dealership the guy that’s in services didn’t care of my concern regarding the Cherokee turning off while driving during traffic especially in the freeways, all he kept saying yup yup yup. He kept telling me he has a paper stating that Jeep Cherokees new models are built like that now. All he offered was to do an oil consumption test which I have to make an appt for and go every 1,000 miles to get it read. I mentioned that the compass has the same type engine, however, with the compass I would go 5,000 miles or more. I don’t understand why can’t these cars are getting worse and worse.

10

Yes. My daughter's 2018 has an oil consumption issue. It started about 15 months after she leased it. After her last oil change, they told her to come in every 500 miles for the consumption check. The first 500 miles (@ which the computer showed she had 92% oil life left), she had already consumed more than 75% of the oil. After her next 500 mile check, if/ when it's still consuming oil at such a rapid pace, they're going to replace her engine- under warranty.

I am currently having the same issue! It started at around 3,000-4,000 miles. Kept shutting off. Took it to the dealership and was told two times it needed a software update. It did not fix the issue. The third trip they discovered it was low on oil! They did an oil change for free and started doing oil consumption test every 1,000 miles. It's been low two times and ok every other time. The only explanation I'm getting is that they think it needs to be "broken in" and at 15,000 miles they will know more. I have never heard of such a thing. Has anyone gotten direct answers regarding the cause of this problem? I personally think the engine needs to be replaced but they are dragging it out.

I'm having the same problem with my new Jeep Latitude 4WD. The radio comes on and go through changing of stations and then the computer goes haywire. I learned that there's a switch that you can turn of to stop the car from cutting off during a stop sign or light. I plan on taking it to let the service tech look at it. I will pursue some type of action for the inconvenience and trouble this car is causing. It's beginning to look more and more like a lemon.

This is a problem Chrysler is aware of yet they keep selling these lemons. 2019 Jeep Cherokee has been in 5 times for engine shutting down. I was told it will burn a quart per month.

Yes, I have the same issue. Upon purchase only after 4300 miles my car shut off in the middle of a busy busy intersection. Took it to service dept where they tell me that this engine is known for burning oil quickly. This stall has happened on three different occasions, and is a safety hazard. I have tried contacting local attorneys but they do nothing.

I have 16000 miles on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus and all the same oil issues as above with no warning lights twice now. Dipstick dry as a bone! Did warn me my washer fluid was low though! Absolutely the most ridiculous crap on a new car. I keep waiting to get slammed into when it shuts off while driving. Already had the recall issue done too. I want a different vehicle!!

Smh...The dealership has told me the same info about the oil. i dont think this is good mechanism at all. I really think its a flaw. And Jeep company doesnt want to admit it. Hey call me or text me. Lets investigate this problem and take it up to corperate office 3233850836. Ttys!!

Wow, I was just telling friends about this this morning. Yesterday morning I was ON MY WAY to my oil change appointment and I turned the corner and it shut down on me. I sat there going...ok Lord..what am I going to do now. So it started up and I made it to the oil appointment. Had I had been on the freeway in the middle lane, I would have gotten killed. This is insanity. I had 3 jeep Liberty's and never had any problems at all. Now I go back to jeep 9 years later, get a Cherokee Latitude and this crap happens. So I looked up my VIN number, and no recalls...hmmm so glad I found this site this makes it even more real. I will be trading this in and getting something else. Really really sad as this gets me around in our horrible winters in the Adirondacks...but geeze, I don't want to fear for my life either.

Yes!! I thought I was crazy! no one could help me. No one knew what was wrong with my 2016 Jeep Lattitude. It stopped on me several times including the highway! When I took it to the dealership they said nothing was wrong! I read a blog to find out that my car may need oil?! Really? However, there was no leak, no smell of oil burning, but once I put the oil in it didn't stop again. So, now I have to keep oil in my car and I have to check it two to three times out of the month to make sure the oil level Is good. There should definitely be a recall for this. Please let me know when the class action lawsuit happens. I am definitely in!

2015 Cherokee Latitude with 60k, shut off in traffic. First time it happened in five years. Got to dealer, they diagnosed low oil, now doing oil consumption test. No indication of low oil. Dealer said this HAS NOT been a problem with Cherokees and no recalls issued - this is BS. Does anyone know of a recall or class action on this. My concern is that I will need a new engine and will be out $$$

Wow, that's scary to think that my vehicle will shut itself down wile driving because it has an issue, but that does seem to be the case. Mine goes into what the dealership calls "limp mode" which basically makes it so you can't drive it. For me it wasn't an oil change, but a warning light and then another and another and then the Jeep went into "limp mode" and left us stranded on our drive to vacation...twice so far. The dealership isn't sure what causes the warning lights to come on like that. They replaced the alternator at 7,000 mi after it happened the first time. But it just happend again at 13,900 mi less than 6 months after the first time. 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (V6) still in the shop as if today.

2019 Jeep Cherokee why isn't there a recall or we should all lemon law these cars mine is also shutting down ...and they claim it burns oil …..time to contact a attorney

It is Nov 8 and the Jeep (2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk V6) is still at the dealership. They have done all the testing that they and Chrysler can come up with to do and they have come up with nothing. They tell me that they only have one record of another Jeep with the same issue (guess they are not looking at these forums!) and that the source was the alternator...I almost suspect that they are looking at the record of the first time this happened to my Jeep, where they did replace the alternator. I am giving up on them discovering the issue and concerned that all this testing and time in the shop might create more issues. Think it is time to pick it up and drive it until the issue happens again...probably on my next vacation.

Yes we are having the exact same problem. No indicators. Just over 3000 miles since the last oil change and oil is very low and engine is shutting down. Sticker from last oil change says still almost 2000 miles until next oil change.

I purchased the 2019 grand Jeep Cherokee, it has 4,000 miles on it and has started stalling. Left me in the middle of an intersection and was towed to the dealership and maintenanced for a low voltage problem. Four days later, it stalled backing out of the driveway, your in gear and can hear the engine revving but the car goes nowhere. Had it towed again to them, waiting to hear what they find?

Same problem stalled twice last year was told by dealer not enough oil this was 1000 miles after the oil change by dealership. Now today back in dealership car just stalled at 25 mph on left turn lucky empty road waiting in service dept now but this seems too early for problems it’s a 2019. Also took in for recall and they said no problems last year

They just replaced my auxiliary battery a few weeks ago and the stalling has stopped. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I have had the same issues and dealer has informed me of the vehicle issue of low oil will cause motor to stall no matter where your at! This will cause a big lawsuit. I own a 04 mustang and it does not burn the oul this 4 cyl does! I have had my cherokee for 39,000 miles and i have had the radio turning off issue and i am currently dealing with Jeep/fiat customer service about a bad ac fan. No longer blowing. Dealer also had to recently replace my battery as it was already bad! Mind you this is a 2019 cherokee

I just had the dealership repair this same problem on my 2019 Cherokee. They replaced the engine long block. I was told others are having the same problem. Thank goodness it is still in warranty.

10

I have a 2018 Jeep Compass and I had my jeep stall out while I was driving 3 times. I had it towed to Jeep in Valencia CA and I was just informed that I had 0 oil in my jeep. I had an oil change at the Rydell Jeep in San Fernando at 9,054 miles and I am at 13,500 miles. So after 4,446 miles I had 0 oil in my jeep. They are going to do an oil change and have me drive it for 1000 mile to see what how much oil it is using.

10

Forgot to mention there were no warning signs no alerts of any kind on my dash.

My 2019 Jeep has suddenly stalled on 2 different occasions and had to be taken to the dealership where they did an early oil change and told me without the emergency shut off, I couldve blown my engine. Both only halfway between oil changes. I was told by the service techs that these cars actually use oil, so the oil needs to be checked every 3000 miles. I've never heard of such a thing. The 1st time this happened was even before it was due for its first oil change. Thankfully it stalled in my neighborhood and not on a busy highway. The gauge said 30% oil life left both times, so I figured I was good. It's good to know that there are others with the same problem. What is the recourse??

My jeep cherokee cut off on me several times before I took it in. Turns out the piston rings in the engine broke and scored the cylinder leaving the engine to consume too much oil. Needed a new engine. Thank goodness for the extended warranty I purchased.

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee TrailHawk was finally officially released from the dealership service department after it's latest shut down incident back on October 12, 2019. They have apparently ran every test suggested by Chrysler through it's Star Case and checked everything they can think of and had experts look at it...and they cannot locate the source of the issue. Background: I leased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (V6) back in June of 2018. The first time it shut down was in the Smokey Mountains just outside of Gatlinburg at 11PM. One warning light after another came on, the power steering and power breaks went out (just what you want to have happen on mountain roads, at night) and we found a safe place to pull over. The Jeep had just under 7,000 miles. The Dealership it was towed to replaced the alternator. The second time it shut down was on a trip up north, less than 6 months after the first trip, with approx 13,800 miles on it. Same exact thing. One warning light after another, then out goes the power steering and power breaks…we find a safe place to pull over. After that trip the Jeep went to the dealership and has been in and out (mostly in) since mid-October of 2019. The only thing they could find were High Voltage Codes. They could not find the source of those codes. They could not figure out why the vehicle shuts down. The Jeep is regularly serviced at the Dealership where we leased it…. Each time it shut down has been on a longer trip (so far), over 150 miles. Each time the Jeep was close to a 7,000-mile point: the first was at 6,900 miles, the second was at 13,800 miles. I suspect we will be experiencing another shutdown around 21,000 miles. Good luck to all with solving the issues.

10

Have the same problem with our 2017. It consumed oil very fast. Tried several different dealers to get them to fix the problem. Their only solution was to come in every 3000 miles for an oil change or just add oil every 1000 miles. Totally unacceptable. After many trips to the dealer for the issue they finally replaced the engine. It still consumes oil but at a slower rate. It has been a problem with the 4 cylinder engine in these cars for a long time. I'm shocked that they wouldn't have a light come on to let you know that your oil is getting so low that the engine will shut off. My guess is that they know if they did that the light would be on all the time.

Same thing just happened to me! I get all work done at dealership. Oil was changed June 2019. in January 2020, my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Limited with 2.4L engine stalled on a turn and the battery light and several other lights lit up all at once. Got it going again after a couple minutes and got to Autozone one block away. Autozone said battery was weak and I got a new battery. Just hours later, it stalled again after turning onto a busy road during rush hour. I nearly got hit! Couldn't pull over; car wouldn't budge, but did have heat and air. This time, no lights on dashboard lit up. Again, it started and I made it home. Made appointment with dealership and found I had next to no oil!!! I never have to check my oil as I get it changed every 6-7 months and it's always full synthetic. This is the first time it's happened to me and at 32,000 miles. Now, I wonder if it's really safe to drive base on what I'm reading here. Guess I just need to check oil weekly and see how much it is burning.

10

I have a 2017 jeep cherokee it's doing the same thing it will shut off going down the highway I have taken it to the dealership twice in a month and they say it's an oil consumption problem think I should call Chrysler because the warranty people say it should use that much oil.

Same issue with my 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Stalls at and dies without warning. 58k miles and I was very diligent with oil changes. It is currently at the dealer again and I will probably be told I need a new engine. This is a serious and dangerous systemic problem. Has anyone contacted or started a class action lawsuit?

10

I filed a complaint today with the NHTSA. Because my 2018 Jeep Latitude Plus is doing the same thing. The dealer said they will replace my engine under warranty. But will not provide a courtesy car. I have to rent one. I am going through management to get THAT resolved.

Just contacted FCA USA / Mopar in regards to this issue, I paid for a synthetic oil change as I was told i wouldn't have to get an oil change for 10,000 miles. 2,000 miles later and my car shut off on the highway today, someone almost hit me and thankfully they were able to stop in time. I'm over it. I've taken it to the dealer many times and they claim this is normal, wtf. This is not normal. A car that's only 2 years old and under 35,000 miles shouldn't be having this issue. I'm extremely concerned for my safety and that of other motorists on the road. I'm also having a gearbox sensor issue that has been fixed twice already and Currently a third time , unfortunately parts are on back order. My next move is to contact a lemon law attorney. I'm over this car and it was a birthday gift so I didn't want to to give up on it.

I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, I have had my car 6 months and the car shuts off when it needs oil, I didn't know oil because my car never warned me of that, plus I didn't think a new car would be burning through oil so fast. I'm glad I found this page so I can see that so many other people are having the same problem as me. I am going to contact the dealer and see if I can get my car in for service tomorrow.

Have a 2018 Jeep with 33k miles on it and have battled the oil issues for the last six months after the car died on me and an 18 wheeler had to veer off the road to avoid killing me. Throughout multiple visits to the dealership here is what I know: There is a sensor that alerts the car when its low on oil so it shuts the car down. Supposedly to protect the engine, while at the same time putting all of our lives in jeopardy. When the oil is low and sloshing around the oil pan it will set off this sensor, hence the car also dieing on turns. After multiple trips and tests at the dealership, the dealership said it's just the way it is. Testing showed that my car was burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles so the oil wont last from one scheduled oil change to the next. I was told I will just have to live with it and add a quart every 1000 miles. Before someone dies there should be class action suit against Jeep. Please check your oil every 1000 miles, you'll need a quart. Be safe.

We just bought a used 2019 Latitude with just under 30k. We had the car for about 2-3 months and the car stalled a couple times while just starting out driving in the morning. We brought it to Jeep dealership (Leith in Raleigh, NC) and luckily they were very helpful. They told us the oil was low and was due to a common engine issue, They said it was covered and were replacing the engine. If you are having the same issue tell the dealer you know it is a known issue and the engine should be replaced under warranty. Or go to a more honest reputable Jeep dealership.

Just last week my 2017 Jeep Cherokee stopped about 8 blocks from house thought it was battery hot it charged started up and ran fine. I prayed the whole way to drop my sons off at airport! (Yeah very far out) drove around all that day fine. Next morning same thing stopped bout 3blocks from my house. Got another jump, checked battery n alternator all fine. Called dealer said it was oil consumption. I got oil change thinking that would fix. My dealer cautioned me to bring it in ASAP! So today it was diagnosed as just that needing a new engine. Currently in a 2020 Jeep rental hope it doesn’t happen on this one!!!! Be safe

2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, engine excessive oil use shuts down while driving told a quart of oil every 1500 normal and I need to ck the oil every time I fill up. Also having problem with transmission not down shifting. When you pull up to a red light and slow down and the light turns green while still rolling around 15mph the car will stall while accelerating from anywhere 3 to 5 seconds and then the engine will jump up to 4000 rpms and take off but was also told that was normal. I have contacted a lawyer and currently working through the courts. I would recommend anyone have oil use problems or transmission problem contact an attorney. Jeep refuses to help so good luck. I bought my Cherokee new and have had it since August 2018 and I've only put 19000 miles on it. Afraid to drive it.

im being told to drive it 1500 more miles after problems since I got it 2019 ..shut down while driving 3 times in two days ...now saying needs a engine replacement at 20000 miles really keep this junk

Im having the same problem you had with the low oil, did you have to get a new engine? Kendra

Lots of people complaining about a "low oil" problem. Almost NO ONE will tell us which engine they have. Airheads !

2.4 L 4-cylinder 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude plus fwd. On 3 different occasions my car has cut off on me while driving. Imagine being on the interstate. So each time at about 1500 miles before it was time to get serviced my car shut down. The battery light was the only thing that popped up. They finally did an oil consumption test and they took my vehicle because it burned so much oil now they have to replace the engine.

We are having the same radio problem and our car just ran out of oil under 5000km

Same 2019 Cherokee . Oil after a oil change is gone in like 3 weeks. Radio volume also goes in and out . What a fucking lemon. Do I have any rights ?? Dealership not that helpful .

Has anyone else reported the engine shutting down while driving due to low oil to the NHTSA? I filed a complaint today due to almost getting hit trying to merge onto the tollway. If you haven’t filed a complaint, please do. It’s the way recalls get started. https://www- odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/?

I had this issue with my 2019 Cherokee about a month ago and 3 weeks later I received a recall notice in the mail saying there’s an important recall regarding oil consumption. I made the appointment, took it to the dealership and they said they need to replace the entire engine. I was very surprised to hear that, I assumed it was going to be a quick part replace. We’re waiting for the engine to come in. But my concern is the issue happening again with the new engine. Unless this new engine is “fixed,” what’s the point of replacing it?

I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude I haven’t had the stalling out but it goes through oil. Doing an oil change every 3000 miles plus adding a quart in that time. This has been since I brought it in 2019. My dealership has not been helpful at all.
