I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the battery light came on. Took it to a couple of places. This one place told me it is a computer problem which may require a new computer and will run about $1,200. Another place told me the alternator is in good shape but the harness is bad and it'll run around $1,800. Took it to a neighborhood place that fixes flats. Was told it was a bad wire that connected the harness tot he alternator. Wire replaced, labor charges, etc....$225. Problem solved
