Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Mercury Sable, it was running fine
Friday and when I turned it off it wouldn't start so
we took off the positive cable and it started right
up. It started twice after that but it won't start now.
All the lights come on and the radio, when I turn
the key over it makes a clicking sound but wont
catch. I bought a new battery but that wasn't it,
could this be my Starter or my Alternator ?

If the battery is good, it should turn over even if the alternator was bad, alternator will only do anything when battery is low. Check battery cables first to make sure they are clean and tight. If cables are ok, battery charged, check for voltage signal at the starter solenoid, if voltage is good, check or replace starter

This is an old post but follow my recommendation above, if it's good, replace starter
