"Reading" Lights won't go off

Asked by GuruVWQYY Aug 10, 2018 at 05:02 PM about the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Limited 4Motion

Question type: General

The "reading lights" in the ceiling of the back seat of my VW Tiguan won't go
off, unless I lock the doors. When I click the button by the lights, they won't
turn off. I'm afraid if I don't lock the car (like I ordinarily would if it was in the
garage)m the battery will die. I have checked, and even when the car is turned
off for, say :30 or more, the lights stay on.

I had this problem the day I drove home from the dealership with my new Tiguan. I found the below answer and another comment on VWVortex.com and it worked! This happened to us as well. You have to turn your rear lights off (even if they are on, just push the power button anyways) Then goto the master button by the sunroof and press it... trust me it works. It took us an hour to figure this out, lol OMG! That was it! I was working under the assumption that when the button is in the OUT position, it is Off. It's exactly the opposite and it's the combination that we didn't try. All the buttons have to be pushed IN to turn them Off. So, the REAR and the two reading lights all pushed IN turns them Off. Thanks!!!
