My 1998 Mercury Mystique 2.0 automatic cranks but wont start. Apperas to have no spark, fuel pressure is good. What could be wrong?

Check to see if your car has an ignition relay. And yes a bad cam sensor will keep it from starting. And getting spark.

The first thing to check on ANY Ford product that does this is the inertia switch that turns off the fuel pump in case of an accident. It is located somewhere in the trunk, and is normally a red or orange button. Depress it, and see what happens. Sometimes a bump in a parking lot is enough to shut it off. It is there to shut the pump off in case of a crash so a damaged fuel line does not fuel a fire!

I'm having the same problem on my 1996 mercury mystique. Go to the plug input to the computer (located under the power steering pump resorvoir).A 10 mm socket will undo the plug. Make sure to check that the ground wire from the plug to the chassie is secure and not corroded. there are two pins on the plug that correspond to the output from the crankshaft sensor. you should see at least somewhere around 4-5 volts coming from those two pins, This voltage has to be there in order for the computer to send a signal to the coil to fire. if it is not there, you will need to trace back to the sensor to find the problem. if the crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, coil pack, and plugs seem ok...then you may have a computer problem or you could have a problem with the flywheel on the car...mine is eating up the crankshaft sensor which is a common problem with the ford and murcury model cars from these years. you will have to first look at the crankshaft sensor and see if there is any damage or rubbing on the end of the sensor itself...then go from there. good luck! my car is still not starting.
