Fluid temps are best kept under 180 degrees.

My transmission mechanic says that Chevy and GM run much hotter than 180. Averages of 225 are considered in the normal range. The problem with late model Chevy transmissions is overheating above that which leads to slipping and other problems. This should be a recall issue and is being pursued with a class action suit.

If it runs hot change the fluid more often. At 225 the fluid life is much shorter. You can also upgrade the cooler.
