There should be a belt tensioner that you have to move in one direction of another to take the tension off the belt to remove it. You need a long socket wrench and maybe an extension. You might also have to remove parts to access, such as skid plates, wheel and wheel well. Check youtube for a video.

I hope you are a good "shade tree mechanic " I have 2 Capri's and done both . just removing all the parts is difficult . [F.R. wheel , splash guard , jack-up engine under oil pan ,remove engine mount , water pump pulley , a.c. & p. s. belt , upper & lower timing belt covers ,crank pulley , timing must be at top dead center before belt removal , also block the 2 timing gears - they can move because of the valve spring tension , remove both idler and tension rollers . I usually change the water pump [they are know to leak] best to replace everything with new parts .

installing new parts . keep new belt tight on right side and let the spring on tension pulley take up the slag . I always push the tension spring pulley further with my hand ,this will take up the play as the new belt wears in . Turn engine 2 turns with crank pulley and check all timing marks before installing the rest . Good luck
