Can anyone help me, and explain why my 91 XR2 revs at 3,000 and 4,000 rpm at frequent times?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It will just rev at those speeds and will not come down until I almost redline the motor, which will surely destroy the motor.

i owned 3 capris and had all the problems but this one .. The only thing that can let that much air past the throttle valve is the BAC valve [by pass air control ] and idle speed control valve . I had one go bad . It has a large rubber hose that could let air get past the throttle valve . Without stepping on the gas it could rev high .
