the van dies tach drops to 0 while the motor is still running. then there is a dinging under
the dash like a low fuel ding. i have a full tank of gas. what might the problem be?

Bad IAC valve - idle air control valve or large vacuum leak. Windstars are bad about the large vacuum l on the front of the engine cracking.
it sounds like that might be the reason why the tach dies before the engine.. but would that cause the engine not to start right back up??

Yes it will effect the o2 sensors and mass air flow if the leak is large enough.
do you have a idea where the line might sit i think it would be right on top and is it like a little black hose? or is it going to be larger.. and thank you
