Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004 Mini Cooper (manual) got to were it
wouldnt start was popping clutch in it to get
it started (probably a week or so) then we
replaced the battery in it. Then when going
up hills the RPMs go up but car slows down
like its trying to make it up the hill but
struggling. Now I was driving it & it wont go
into gear like it wont do anything no reverse
or any gears. Anything i can check off list
before saying for sure it’s the clutch? I will be
checking and commenting throughout the
next few days. Its a 2dr manual 4 cyclinder

my brother's mini coopers S had a similar problem when I was driving it. When it happened, I thought there was no way i could have burnt out the clutch in 15 minutes of city driving. And my brother is going to kill me. We took it his friends shop that night. It turned out to be a recently replaced axle that connects the transmission to the wheels. One was broken. I don't know how that happened. FYI, are two of them. You should check those if every gear acts like neutral. PS. my driving privileges have been revoked. LOL.
