2004 Mini Cooper S key problems

Asked by Motorng Oct 30, 2015 at 05:49 PM about the 2004 MINI Cooper S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 2004 Mini Cooper S and the 2 keys that came with the car are
both working intermittently.  My local Mini mechanic says he can't replicate
the problem andI have replaced the batteries in both. I currently carry both
keys and so far if one does't work, the other has worked.  Afraid for the day
they both do not work!  Anyone had the same problem?

Sometimes electronic items that are placed close to keys cause intermittent issues. Keep you cellphone away from the key. This may or may not help, but it is worth a try.

I am a Mini automotive technician right here in east Carolina, and I would suspect its the KCM, the key control module which is what picks up the signal from the key I would suspect this is the problem
