Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 06 mitsubishi eclipse shut off while I was
driving and now it clicks when I try to turn the key
to run, I put a brand new starter but still does the
same. Im sure it's a bad pump but how can I test it
or what else could it be

Sounds like you need a battery jump or new battery. Try that, use some jumper cables and another car to start it up.

FUEL PUMP Have someone turn the key over in the car as your by the gas tank you should hear a "click" like sound from the fuel pump starting up. The fuel pump can get hot and shut down. There also usually a whining noise from it also. If no noise I'd check Fuel Pump relay switch of your car in the fuse box under your hood. BATTERY Usally lights, radio any thing electrical won't usally come on . It won't crank or start so you'd have to get a jump.take it to AutoZone or really and mechanic and they should test it for free battery testing. ALTERNATOR Lights and Radio will dim and go out slowly. Usually a lound squeely noise coming from it. You can diagnose alternator by having the car started. Then remove the negative terminals from the battery, if it dies then it's the alternator or if you get a jump and it says running for a while then it would be your battery. The Battery starts the starter to power on the engine itself. Then the alternator will take over supplying power to all electronics including your battery.

If you don't here a click from the pump turning on or a noise when you turn the key over then usually it's bad. But typically it won't start then so You'll then have to go to a shop or get a fuel pressure gage to test the pressure. Also take a look at your fuel filter
