2001 mitsubishi eclipse gs 2.4l

Asked by Mattchollis1988 Oct 04, 2016 at 06:22 PM about the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just replaced the timing belt, water pump, cps,
head gasket, balance shaft belt, and all of my
pulleys on my 01 mitsubishi eclipse 2.4l. I have
gone back and double checked all of my work,
timing marks, tensioner, fuses, and compression,
but she won't start. It cranks all day long but never
catches. I couldn't hear the fuel pump kicking on,
so my first thought was to squirt some starting
fluid. Still nothing. I thought maybe I had a faulty
ground so I tried running jumper cables from the
motor to the body, to no avail. I can't figure out
what's going on. If anyone has any suggestions is
appreciate it.

I've been a shade tree mechanic for about 15 years now, and I feel completely stupid. I figured out the problem, and it was the simplest thing. The crank sensor was mounted backwards. I probably wouldn't have caught it except when I plugged in my code reader it said no signal from crank sensor. I guess I've been working to hard. I'd say this is the worst design for an essential part ever. There should be at least a safety pin or offset mounting holes to prevent improper installation.

An easy way to diagnose if you crank sensor is faulty using a scanner crank engine and look at rpm while cranking should be 100 -500 if there is no display while cranking suspect faulty crank sensor
