Check the switch on the brake pedal. It takes power from the fuse box and sends it to the brake lights. You should have power in and out when the pedal is pressed.

I'm thinking a BCM (body control module) but my research does not substantiate this assertion...let's see if number 1 DavidH25 will not be annoyed~

So you changed switches and you have power going to the rear? You have a ground connection or the other bulbs would not work. Check the rear sockets for power when the brake pedal is pressed. I use a snow brush propped between the pedal and the seat to make it a one man procedure.

Tenspeed, the sockets were tested with a light up tester and it lit up for the lights and blinkers but not for the brakes.

two connectors go outside the cabin C-204 and C-214, must investigate where these connectors go/what they do--now~

The tester is showing no power on the brake wires at the rear. Check the connector at the brake pedal switch for power. You can jumper the two contacts and send power to the rear brake light bulb sockets. It's a simple one wire circuit. Fuse / wire / brake pedal switch / wire / brake light bulb socket / ground.
