not getting fire to the spark plugs?

Asked by robb3434 Dec 26, 2013 at 01:25 PM about the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car turns over but will not crank. I checked all fuses and there were good. I took the spark plug wire off and put a screw driver in it and put it close to the frame and got no arc when I had someone turn over the car. I just replaced the coil packs about two months ago. Any Ideas?

Did the car just quit while you were driving? How many miles is on it?

check your coils and PTU, also might want to check into your ECU,, also did you check all the wires or just one?

Also remove timing belt cover and see if its still intact. If timing belt broke you will have no spark. 2003 model if its never been changed it probably about time. If it was running fine and just quit also due compression check if you suspect a timing belt issue. Might have some bent valves now.

Had same problem here turned out it was throwing 1610 code theft mode (nothing to do with ASD relay) program in the car that reads the rf signal from the key... the key has to be recoded by dealership or some locksmiths can recode witch I found to be a lot cheaper.

So I have a 2002 eclipse gt and it is not getting any spark.at first when it died on the old owner they thought it might be the fuel pump,so they replaced that and then they were getting that 1060 code so they told me it was the key.i have lock Smith come from AAA and reprogram the computer for the key and now the thing sees the key but it's not getting spark.i fire it need the key because of that code but the immobilizer on this thing does not shut the spark off.it shuts the fuel off.its almost if there is something bigger like the ecu going on that control all of it but I don't know yet
