Muffler change

Asked by BeastGT Jun 14, 2016 at 09:39 PM about the 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL FWD

Question type: Car Customization

I have stock exhaust on my 98 3000gt and I want
louder exhaust but I don't want to change all the
piping on my exhaust. So would I just be able to
change the muffler to make it any louder

If yours is equipped with the resonators and mufflers you will probably not be satisfied with just the sound of a louder muffler. There are some good aftermarket full exhaust systems on line for our cars that are direct bolt on that will give you the sound you are looking for. The muffler shops around here won't even attempt to change one of our mufflers out on one of these to make louder cause they don't really understand how the resonators play into the whole scheme of things. Might end up with some very weird sounding exhaust.

You can go cat back for freer flowing exhaust or I suggest to go from exhaust manifold back. This way you will get rid of that restrictive rear down pipe. This way not only would you get the better sound but will also feel the difference in power from better flowing down pipes.
